I AM SO EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE PIPER GAVE BIRTH TO 4 HEALTHY PUPPIES! At 3am on 7/20 she came into my room and started doing short growls at me. Usually this means, pet me or I have to potty now! I tried to let her out but she didn't move off my bed. I wasn't expectimg the puppies for at least another day or two, but we were ready. I put her in the whelping area and set up my clean towels, scissors, clamps, suction and identification collars. I monitored her contractions and tried to give her water between contractions. She started off needing her pillow hut to stay comfortable, knowing I would have to get rid if it when the first pup came. She labored for over an hour and then Sparky came at 4:20am. Sparky is such a cute little reddish-brown boy. He was quiet so I stimulated and suctioned him. After I heard his squeeks Piper took over and cleaned him up and started feeding him.
She continued having contractions and at 4:40 had a small black girl puppy that we named Violet, she was strong amd LOUD. I did have to cut the umbilical cord since the placemta was taking awhile and she wanted to move! She is a fierce lil one. She continued to labor and delivered the next puppy at 5:20, another little girl that we named Star. She has traditional yorkie markings. reddish- brown coat with black accents, and a cute white chest. Piper was doing great, she continued contracting and pushed the biggest puppy out just before 7am. We are calling him Lucky, since he was in the birth canal for more then an hour. I did have to assist on the delivery of him. he is a dark brown pup. they are all healthy and growing :) edit- not sure how to remove the header picture sorry

The puppies are days away! piper has finished making her whelping space. I have prepared all the necessary items for delivery and now we wait. Tomorrow she gets an xray to see how many puppies there are. I am thinking 5-6. I am praying for a healthy delivery. |
